ABOUT

I am a high school visual art educator and an artist working in painting and mixed mediums. I have lived on the coast of Maine most of my life.

My art is mostly a collection of work that explores both a love and interest in the area where sea meets the land and all that it inhabits. I am interested in exploring the vital role in these ecosystems through science and art. I have always had the desire to represent literal descriptions in nature that communicate as abstractions.  Relying on rhythm and composition, I like to play with the idea of placing objects within the canvas while at the same time inviting an emotional, even spiritual, connection to their content.

I also enjoy making miniatures in many forms most recently in plants but also expands to almost anything you can think of in miniature including furniture, painting, food, etc.

As an educator, It is my mission to empower students through the study of art by assisting my students’ discovery of meaning in the visual world that surrounds them. Art education is a powerful tool for expression that helps students make connections between the intellect and emotion.  It involves the communication of, and the perception and reflection about ideas generated from their own experience.
